irDA with colibri module on the development board

Hi, has anyone used the IrDA port on the colibri development board under linux and could shed light on its usages. Information googled seems rather old.

Does anyone already used irDA TFDU4101 on colibri development board?
Obviously, no article covers this device on Toradex developer neither Community!
And it lets me asking why Toradex provides it with this carrier board ?
