Toradex Linux BSP release plan

We are considering to upgrade from rocko to a more recent Yocto release for our iMX products (mostly for Colibri iMX6 and Colibri iMX7 modules).

Yocto sumo has be released for quite some time. The next release, thud, is scheduled for the next month or so. We prefer to use a release that Toradex will also support in future.

  1. Has any decision have been made about which release of Yocto to be supported?

  2. Is there any chance that sumo will be skipped in favor of thud in the future, just like when what happened to pyro? This is important to us as we don’t want to be on a branch that Toradex will not support.

  3. Apparently, meta-freescale hasn’t released sumo yet. Does Toradex wait for a official freescale release and then plans to switch to a newer release?

Overall, it would be nice to have a release plan or announcements on the adaption of Yocto releases. It gives us more flexibility in using next Yocto releases. The early-adapting customers can also contribute and send their patches to meta-toradex-* layers which is a plus.

or announcements on the adaption of Yocto releases. It gives us more flexibility in using next Yocto releases.

Please also find more information about our support strategy here.

You are of course welcome to send patches as per regular OpenEmbedded/Yocto Project guidelines.

Thanks for the information. A thud release of the meta-toradex-bsp meta-layer would be greatly appreciated here too!
