Build Apalis iMX8/Colibri iMX8X Boot Image/Linux from Scratch
I also noticed this article not being up to date and it is on top of our list to be available later today or tomorrow.
We are further integrating support for Apalis iMX8 as well as Colibri iMX8X in our regular BSP 3.0b1 which will be later this Q2 as well.

,I’ve built the Rev B bsp from Mid-August (1ba3e2e36713be3400be9f1af27d91bd338c84dc). Yes, awesome, the LDVS screen attached to my Iris/Colibri imx8x setup is now showing the Linux framebuffer console. So the RGB display works on Rev B imx8 silicon. Fantastic.
However, after successfully building and deploying “qt5-x11-image.bb,” it seems there’s no way to actually run, for example, the qtsmarthome demo on any display. The bsp doesn’t seem to have a valid platform to run against or X11 is not configured correctly. I’ve tried all “–platforms” that are available: minimal, offscreen, vnc, xcb and the qtsmarhome application doesn’t run.
Furthermore, there’s no display configured in the Linux launch arguments:
$ cat /proc/cmdline
root=PARTUUID=8b5f9dc2-02 ro rootfstype=ext4 rootwait
Has anyone tested this?
It’s possible I have the wrong MACHINE or DISTRO (MACHINE ?= “colibri-imx8x” and DISTRO_mx8 = “tdx-xwayland”). But if these were wrong, I doubt the image would build.
I’m under the impression, now that the Rev B silicon supports RGB displays via LVDS, that there’s nothing standing in the way of running Qt on X11 (or Wayland/XWayland), less the status of the BSP. Correct?
When will we be able to run Qt on this thing? I feel like we’re really close to having this work but it just needs that last BSP push over the finish line.
It seems you guys have been prioritizing Torizon and Crank for some reason though. Why focus on such a silly small segment of the embedded Linux marketplace?
I’m frustrated with how this product bring-up is going. Please give us a timeline for basic Qt5 video support.
Would you please be so kind to ask a new question rather than hijacking this one which did not even target the same module or BSP in question?

This should work, you should try one of our latest build which is available in CI Feeds.

Yes, the new image will support Qt with Wayland.

Torizon is our new Software Platform for people coming from Windows or other Systems to make them easily enter in Embedded Market. Someone who is already experienced as you might continue using the steady way of creating the Linux images using OpenEmbedded by himself.
