I’ve seen posts referring to issues with USB Hard Disks and the iMX7 boards. Seems to be power related issues. I’m wondering if there is an option of getting SATA connected to the Colibri iMX7.

Yes, sure using a USB to SATA converter. Depending on the size of Storage you need, you can also use SD cards.
