7" Capacitive display connectivity with Colibri Board

Hello,

I have just bought the Colibri Evaluation Board with IMX8 and IMX6ULL SOMs, and the 7 inch capacitive touch display.
I went through the getting started guide, have no VGA monitor available so I want to check the display directly.
The display is not turning on, although I see the messages on the serial terminal.

I have just connected the SOM, power supply, USB cable to Serial debugging, USB Keyboard and the Display.

I am attaching the pictures of the setup here as well.

Is there any jumper setting I should try to fix?
Thanks.

Hello @mltc and Welcome to the Toradex Community!

Thanks for the images. Your connection seems to be correct.

Could you provide the version of the Hardware (including carrier Board) and Software of your module?

For the 7inch capacitivie touch display, please follow the steps described on our developer article.

Best regards,
Jaski

@jaski.tx The versions are as follows:
Capacitive Touch Panel : V1.0B
Colibri Evaluation Board : v 3.2 B
SOM 1: Colibri iMX8QXP 2GB WB IT
SOM 2: Colibri iMX6ULL 512MB WB IT

I have tried with both SOMs.
Can it work out of the box, meaning I can see the Toradex easy installer or does the capacitive touch display need configuration?

Thanks.

@jaski.tx
I also tried connecting over RDP with USB RNDIS now, I can login using root and empty password, but all i see is a black screen.
what could be the problem with that?
Thanks.

Hi @mltc

Which host distribution and which rdp client are you using? Could use put the module recovery mode and flash the newest Toradex Easy Installer (v2.0b4) on both modules as explained here?

Thanks and best regards,
Jaski

Hi @jaski.tx ,

  1. Starting with recovery mode once worked for the iMX6ULL modules. They are working now.

  2. I can see the UART messages from iMX8QXP as well, but cannot get any display to work with it.
I have tried having a VGA to HDMI cable using VGA connector on the Colibri Evaluation Board, and also a DVI-I to HDMI cable, connected to DVI-I and HDMI Monitor. No display configuration seems to work for the iMX8. Can you please suggest any configuration after going into UBoot?

  3. I need iMX8 to work with an HDMI display.
One idea is to buy a MIPI-DSI->HDMI and Colibri HDMI Adapter and connect them to the MIPI DSI port on the iMX8 side and HDMI to monitor on the other side. Would that work?
    Thank you.

Perfect that it works.

Actually if you install Toradex Easy Installer 2.0b4 or Bsp 3.0b4, the you should be able to see image on the Capacitive touch out of box.

I need iMX8 to work with an HDMI display. One idea is to buy a MIPI-DSI->HDMI and Colibri HDMI Adapter and connect them to the MIPI DSI port on the iMX8 side and HDMI to monitor on the other side. Would that work? Thank you.

Yes, this will work. So you will connect the Colibri iMX8 to the DSI Adaptor and the DSI Adapter to the Evaluation Carrier Board (X6). Finally you can connect the HDMI Monitor to the DVI-I Connector of the Carrier Board.
