iMX8X HW vD

Hi

Last week I got a Colibri iMX8X Hardware version D, worked with vB before but now NO Torizon image installed with easy Installer works. With the Torizon for vC the device boots but after login he wants me to change the password, after the first entry putty closes with: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error.

An other very bad issue is that after booting easyinstaller connected mouse doesn’t work and the touch overlay is inverted (upside down), I have to click on top left if I want to push a button bottom left. With this issue the device is unusable, please help.

Greetings @syntom,

I’m a little confused by your description. So if you’re using the 1.0D i.MX8X you need to use the images that are marked 1.0C or newer.

Once you flash Torizon upon first login with default credentials user:torizon password:torizon. You’ll be asked to change the password for the torizon user. If you’re connected via ssh this will disconnect you after changing the password but you can then reconnect using the torizon user and the new password you just inputted.

Once all that is done you’re saying you can’t access the device anymore? Are you using SSH or serial?

As for Easy Installer issues, I’ve never seen a case where the display is upside down. What kind of display are you using? Also what carrier board are you using?

Best Regards,
Jeremias

Yes I installed 1.0C and connected with putty. And yes after the first connect with torizon/torizon (putty/ssh) I have to enter a new password and confirm it. But after I enter the new password putty closes with the errormessage: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error. So I cannot change the password.

Using Viola Rev 1.2 Carrier board and a Resistive Touch Display 7’’ V1.0B, everything from Toradex and I tried it with 1.0B and 1.0C. The display is inverted/mirrored and the Calibration Tools don’t work. (Did everything as described here: Touch Screen Calibration (Torizon) | Toradex Developer Center).
Please check this link to see a video where I demonstrate the touch problem: https://we.tl/t-lha6KVIrvH
Even to install an image with Easy Installer is very tricky!

No I know what is different to my previous installation on a vB. It was Torizon v4, now I tried it with Torizon5. Now I installed the latest Torizon4-HWvC(with evaluation containers) and the device is showing the portainer website now. Putty/SSH still not possible with the same error.

Hi @syntom,

Please try that using the TorizonCore 5, because TorizonCore 4 will be discontinued.
Either way, it’s interesting to know that it was working before with TorizonCore 4.

Let me ask you a few items:

About the login: Are you able to access the module through the UART console, using the modified password? The problem is only at SSH access?

About the installation, which version of the Easy Installer are you using?

It’s recommended to use the 2.0b6.

So, just confirming your environment:

  • Colibri iMX8X V1.0D
  • Viola carrier board V1.2 (which letter version?)
  • Resistive Touch Display 7" V1.0B

In the meantime when we investigate the issue with your touchscreen, you can use VNC to access the Easy Installer.

For Windows we recommend using TightVNC, and for Linux, Remmina.

EasyInstaller 2.0b6, there is no lettor on the Viola board or I can’t see it. Did not try UART console.

Just installed Torizon v5 without containers and I can connect with putty but there is no “new password” request.

Hi @syntom,

Last monthly of TorizonCore 5 had this “issue” with the password.
It’s fixed, and you can check it by yourself with the latest nightly (which you can get by enabling

But it’s good to know that you managed to connect to it.

André Curvello

Sorry, could you rephrase what you said?

Hi @syntom,

Please, install one of the nightly builds of TorizonCore 5.1.0.

You can do that by:

  1. Load Easy Installer
  2. Mark Continuous Integration Server in the “Feeds” option
  3. Select a TorizonCore 5.1.0 image (with or without evaluation containers) closest to your date (you’ll see a date number in the image name)
  4. Install it and see if the password issue is now solved.

I’ll be waiting for your feedback.

Thanks for the attention and patience!

Best regards,
André Curvello

I could install Torizon v5 without eval containers and it doesn’t ask for a new pw at first login. BUT I still cannot change the password!

done, marked continous integration server and installed the latest TorizonCore 5.1. Now I’m asked to define a new password, after I enter a new pw ssh closes with the same error. But the display is active and displays the shell. But also there I cannot login with the same error. I see the following problems:

Loading EasyInstaller via USB: No keyboard or mouse detected. Touch overlay is inverted, it’s very tricky to choose an image and install it.

Loading EasyInsaller from flash: keyboard detected, mouse not. Touch overlay is inverted, I can choose the image with keyboard.

Latest TorizonCore image from CI-Feed with or without containers: no login possible.

Only the latest TorizonCore Image without containers works, because it doesn’t ask for a new pw. But I cannot change the password with the same error.

I’m using EasyInsaller 2.0b6.
I was asked which letter version it is, but I don’t see a letter on the board.
I did not try UART console

now I tried Torizon v5.1 2020-12-04 with and without containers, problem still there.

now I installed EasyInstaller 2.0b7-nightly 2020-12-04, touch overlay inverted.

Hi @syntom,

Just to confirm, are you using a Serial connection to the module through the carrier board, right?

The usage of our CI-Feeds is “always” risky due to changes that are constantly added.

Latest TorizonCore image from CI-Feed
with or without containers: no login
possible.

You said that “installed the latest TorizonCore 5.1. Now I’m asked to define a new password” and then Latest TorizonCore image from CI-Feed with or without containers: no login possible.

Did you mean for the SSH access? Please clarify. Because you could not change the password if you had not login (even if by Serial) to Torizon Linux shell.

And in the end, you finished with “Only the latest TorizonCore Image without containers works, because it doesn’t ask for a new pw.”, when you said in the beginning that the latest TorizonCore 5.1.0 asked for a new password.

Sorry, but I’m a little bit confused about your description.

Please, could you update it? Describe which version, precisely, of TorizonCore, and what happened on it.

I’ve forwarded this question to the Torizon development team. Let’s wait for their feedback.

Only the latest TorizonCore Image
without containers works, because it
doesn’t ask for a new pw. But I cannot
change the password with the same
error.

The support for Easy Installer regarding the displays is still ongoing, so I’m sorry to say that but, this, unfortunately, will take time to be solved.
As you are using Viola, I suggest you use VNC to access the Easy Installer.

now I installed EasyInstaller
2.0b7-nightly 2020-12-04, touch overlay inverted.

One last thing:

When you manage to login in the TorizonCore 5.1.0 (with or without containers), please try to change the password without using sudo command.
If you use sudo passwd, you’ll try to change root password, which is not the case.

You have to change only torizon password.

Best regards,
André Curvello

  1. Yes I mean SSH access, I never connected via Serial, I use SSH/Putty. What do you mean with Torizon Linux shell?
  2. Some TorizonCore Version worked, because the pw-change was not forced at first login. But “sudo passwd” failed with the same error. Unfortunately I can’t remember which version it was, I think it was an old v5.0
  3. To enter RecoveryMode I did as described here: iMX Recovery Mode | Toradex Developer Center and I load EasyInstaller via an USB cable and recovery-windows.bat
I don’t use VNC or Serial for connection, SSH only.

My main problems are:

  1. TorizonCore 5.1: no login possible because it crashes at pw-change (passwd) that is forced at first login.
  2. Touch is inverted horizontally (not only in EasyInstaller).
  3. No Keyboard or mouse possible when EasyInstaller is loaded in Recovery Mode.
The problem is not that the touch doesn’t work properly, the problem is that installing images with an inverted touch and without keyboard or mouse is just a pain in the a***!
Please build the current version TorizonCore without forcing pw change at first login or simply fix the passwd bug. A EasyInstaller bugfix would be great too, (loading USB driver correctly so that I can use a keyboard or mouse)

How long do you think do you need to fix the touch problem?

It would be better you remove the touch support in EasyInstaller and add USB support so that I can use mouse or keyboard.
But the touch is also inverted with TorizonCore, this should be fixed asap I think.

What do you mean here:

Did you mean for the SSH access? Please clarify. Because you could not change the password if you had not login (even if by Serial) to Torizon Linux shell.

Is the Torizon Linux shell the same as the Linux shell? At the latest version V5.1 from the CI feed it started with display support and I could login on the device. But also there it asks for a new pw and crashes after I enter it for the first time.
