The Linux microPlatform (LmP) comprises secure updatable firmware, kernel and a minimal distribution built using Open Embedded/Yocto, to run applications and Containers on SoCs. Customer-specific services and applications are built using industry-standard Container technologies. This enables remote management of the product software from private or public cloud device management platforms or Edge devices using standard enterprise tools such as Ansible and Kubernetes.
The microPlatforms are Cloud agnostic and are designed to support a diverse set of industry-standard hardware (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, BLE Mesh, 802.15.4, LoRa, 5G LTE-M, NB-IoT already supported) and communication protocols (DTLS/TLS, UDP/IP, LWM2M, MQTT, HTTPS already supported).
Applications include upgradable smart devices for industry and home, gateways and edge computing devices, reconfigurable OTA for newly attached hardware and/or services, and securely updatable software platforms for the automotive, robot and drone industries.
Linux microPlatform is provided for several Toradex System on Modules, Colibri iMX7 is a Reference Platform. Toradex is also working on a ready-to-use Linux Distribution based on the Linux microPlatform which will be available on many of its other SoMs based on i.MX 6, i.MX6 ULL and i.MX 8.
