Android, QNX, & other operating systems
Android is an operating system based on the Linux kernel. It is gaining wide acceptance in the embedded market. It offers a low-cost, flexible and customizable OS for developing high-tech devices.
Toradex does not offer in-house support for Android, but we provide regularly updated and tested images for selected modules through our partner Kynetics. Android porting and support on Toradex modules is offered by our service partners. Check our list of service partners, who can support for Android projects on Toradex modules.
Our partner Kynetics is the Toradex preferred Android integrator. Toradex and Kynetics provide open-source Android releases guaranteed to be regularly up-to-date with the NXP® Android BSP and supported on our SoMs powered by NXP i.MX8 SoCs.
In addition, Kynetics provides Evaluation BSPs for NXP i.MX6- and i.MX7-based SoMs which are updated at their discretion. Kynetics offers as well an OTA service named Update Factory, a bundled source-code and build environment delivery system named ViBE and engineering services for BSP customization. Kynetics supports custom carrier boards from customers and hardware partners for all Toradex i.MX6/7/8 SoCs. More information is available on Android page of the Toradex developer website.

QNX is a microkernel based operating system, primarily targeted for embedded systems.
Toradex does not offer in-house support for QNX. QNX services on Toradex modules are offered by partners. QNX offers a reliable software platform to build scalable and high-performance applications for medical, automotive, industrial automation, etc.

FreeRTOS is a popular free real-time operating system widely used with microcontrollers and small microprocessors.
Toradex offers in-house support for FreeRTOS on the Arm Cortex-M4 core of the Colibri iMX7 System-on-Module. The NXP/Freescale i.MX 7 SoC is a heterogeneous multicore system with Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4 cores. FreeRTOS is lightweight and open-source. In addition to real-time, FreeRTOS is suitable for low power, always-on and extremely fast boot applications. Toradex supports the Remote Processor Messaging (rpmsg) framework for communication between the A7 and M4 cores.

Embedded Configurable Operating System (eCos) is an open-source, free, and real-time operating system intended for embedded applications that has real-time needs and small memory. It can be customized based on the application requirements.

Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS offers high reliability, security and performance. The RTOS uses hardware partitioning to isolate embedded applications.
