Power efficiency

Up to four Cortex-A35 applications cores — the most power-efficient application Arm processor to support 32- and 64-bit code execution.


Advanced safety

ECC (Error Correction Code) memory increases the reliability and safety of the system. The Colibri IMX8X has ECC-protected internal memory (TCM) in the SoC and CPU Caches. The internal memory is tightly coupled (TCM) with the Cortex-M4 core to provide a protected environment for software running the M4 microcontroller.


Torizon for Remote Updates and Fleet Monitoring

The SoM is available with a tightly integrated Torizon Cloud (formerly Torizon Platform) accelerating the development and maintaining your products. Some key features include highly secure and reliable remote updates, fleet monitoring and remote access.


Ready for Hard-Real-Time

The heterogeneous multicore architecture allows the offloading of critical hard real-time tasks to the Cortex-M4F processors for extremely low latency. Toradex provides tooling and FreeRTOS to simplify development. You can also use the asymmetric multicore architecture for a connected low power mode or to increase security.


High-performance, pre-certified Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Simplify your design with pre-certified wireless options, counting from the module to the antennas, to increase the predictability of end-device certification processes while enabling significant cost savings. The latest 802.11ac standard and support for multi-antenna setups contribute to a great out-of-the-box end-user experience. These are paired with Bluetooth 5 support to offer state-of-the-art integration for Bluetooth devices.


Rugged and Reliable

Each module comes with environmental test reports for vibration and EMI/EMC to give you peace of mind. These modules are built with highly reliable eMMC flash memory, and tools like the Toradex Flash Analytics tool allow you to monitor flash wear in a simple manner.


Toradex Colibri Computer Module Family

Carrier boards designed for the Colibri iMX8X are not just compatible between the four Colibri iMX8X modules — in fact, they are compatible with the complete Colibri family, including the NXP i.MX 7, i.MX 6ULL, i.MX 6 and NVIDIA Tegra-based modules. This gives you unmatched flexibility and easy upgradability. Currently, there are eight different modules with over 20 variations available. To make carrier board design as easy as possible, we provide the Toradex Pinout Designer Tool.


Operating Systems

Toradex offers free support and maintenance for embedded Linux and FreeRTOS on the NXP i.MX 8X-based Colibri iMX8X SoMs. This allows system designers to focus on the application only, instead of focusing also on the OS and low-level device drivers. Other OS such as Android are supported by ourpartners.

Torizon Embedded Linux OS

Torizon is a ready-to-use Linux-based software platform ideal for use in areas like industry and medicine, where reliability is critical. It is a developer-friendly ecosystem that simplifies the process of developing and maintaining embedded software.


Reference Images for Yocto Project

Toradex develops and maintains a Yocto Project-compatible, production-quality embedded Linux BSP in-house.


FreeRTOS

Toradex provides direct support for FreeRTOS on Colibri iMX8X and Colibri. FreeRTOS is a real-time OS that runs on the Cortex-M4 cores in parallel to the main OS.


Android

Android on Colibri iMX8X is supported by our service partner Kynetics. An evaluation BSP is provided free of charge as a binary installer directly on Toradex Easy Installer feeds.
