We are pleased to announce the 3.0b1 release of Embedded Linux® BSPs for Apalis iMX8 - iMX8QM V1.0B.

In the transition from embedded Linux BSP 2.8 to 3.0, major changes were introduced. The new BSP is intended as a base for your own Yocto-based Linux image, while we also provide our new Torizon Linux Platform for a simplified out-of-the-box experience. Check out the main changes from BSP 2.X to 3.X:

      • The Angstrom distribution was changed to a minimal image provided by Toradex, based on Poky
      • BSP 3.X only supports modules with i.MX 6, i.MX 6ULL, i.MX 7, i.MX 8 and i.MX 8X SoCs
      • Dropped support for the Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment (LXDE) in favour of single application use-case
        • X11 or Wayland/Weston are supported depending on availability
      • Apalis TK1 downstream CUDA support may be dropped
        • It is currently still supported
      • OpenEmbedded/Yocto Project was updated to Thud/2.6
      • Update to mainline U-Boot 2019.07, once it is released
      • Overview planning for i.MX 8 modules:
        • 3.0b1 release - only supports Apalis iMX8QM V1.0B, BSP is based on NXP BSP 4.14.78_1.0.0_ga
        • 3.0b2 release - update to NXP BSP 4.14.98_2.0.0_ga, and potentially later i.MX 8/8X SCFW and other updates
